Fire Extinguisher Placement Requirements
Three factors must be considered in determining the proper distribution of fire extinguishers.
- The floor area of the protected space
- The maximum travel distance to a fire extinguisher
- The location of fire extinguishers in relation to normal paths of egress
To use an extinguisher properly remember PASS
PULL – the first step is to pull the pin that prevents the handle from being squeezed
AIM - the second step is to squeeze the handle to spray the contents. Aim low at the base of the fire.
SQUEEZE - the third step is to squeeze the handle to spray the contents
SWEEP - the final step is to sweep back and forth as you spray the base of the fire
